About Phelps Golf Design
Phelps Golf Design’s origins date back to the early 1960’s when Dick Phelps began his career as a Golf Course Architect. Dick’s son, Rick, began learning the craft at the age of 10, tagging along on construction staking visits, holding a survey rod and pounding stakes. Rick joined his father’s firm full time in 1989. When Dick decided to begin the process of retirement, Rick purchased the firm in 2006, renaming it to Phelps Golf Design.
Our current staff and supporting consultants allow us the opportunity to offer clients a wide range of design strengths, creating innovative designs that are easily implemented across a variety of budgets. The experience within the firm is a key ingredient to producing exciting design work using time-tested methods and proven results. The ultimate proof: Golf courses designed by Phelps Golf Design are enjoyed by thousands of golfers every year.
The firm’s reputation is built around Client satisfaction and designing fun, exciting, cost effective and sustainable golf course projects of every type imaginable. With 15 new golf course design projects and well over 200 remodel projects to his credit, Rick brings a wide variety of design problem solving to every project, no matter the size or circumstance.
Five of the firm’s new projects were recognized in local and national media with various awards in the first year after opening, including three projects that made the Golf Digest “Best New” lists in their respective year of opening.
